ALS Manager – Internet platform for telemedical support and attendance

The project ALS Manager attains the objective to establish an internet platform for the execution of controlled pharmaceutical studies based on telemedical attendance of patients in domestic environments and on travels.

ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a neurological disorder characterized by progressive degeneration of motor neuron cells in the spinal cord and brain, resulting in the loss of control of nerves that control voluntary movement, the shrinking of the muscle cells and finally paralysis.

The telemedical support is accomplished by the special home care devices (HCD). The patients’ and probands’ data in a domestic health care environment are collected by the devices (decentral) and processed centrally on the platform. The devices are modularly structured, thus allowing for the individual customization to the patient’s needs and wishes. A flexible adaptation to new situations and even new disease patterns is a further advantage of the modularity.

The internet platform is intended for the nationwide deployment offering a competent and reliable assistance to the decisions of the attending doctor. This allows for more efficient study courses for the short term and a better quality of patient care in the long term.
